Which tanks this package covers

This package is for overhead tanks with a maximum capacity between 1,501 and 2,000 litres:

• Tanks a little over 1,500 litres, on independent houses and the top floor of builder floors. (A 1,500-litre tank costs ₹799.)
• 2,000-litre tanks used by joint families, small guest houses, PGs and shops.
• Concrete terrace tanks of similar volume in older buildings.

Why tanks in this size range get dirty quickly

A 1,500 or 2,000-litre tank usually serves more people than a 1,000-litre one — a larger family, several PG rooms, or a shop with staff. More use means more refilling, and every refill brings in fresh sediment. These tanks are also tall enough that light coming through a faded or lighter-coloured tank wall can support algae on the upper walls. Expect a thicker sludge layer than in a small tank cleaned at the same interval.

Concrete terrace tanks

Many older houses in West and Central Delhi have built-in concrete tanks of around this size on the terrace. They're cleaned with the same method; the difference is that plaster cracks and rough corners need more scrubbing time. If you're unsure of a concrete tank's capacity, multiply the inside length × width × water depth in metres — one cubic metre is 1,000 litres.

Time and access

Allow roughly an hour or a little more, depending on sludge. Make sure the terrace is accessible and the tank lid can be opened — some lids on older tanks are stuck or bolted, so tell us if yours is.
