The apartment tank problem

A large share of Delhi's housing is in small apartment buildings: four-storey builder floors, walk-up blocks in older colonies, and converted independent houses with a flat on each floor. These buildings usually have:

• One shared underground sump that every flat draws from, and
• One rooftop tank per flat, often side by side on the terrace, each with its own motor.

Without a society or maintenance office, nobody is clearly in charge of the shared sump, and individual owners clean their own rooftop tanks at different times — if at all. A flat that cleans its rooftop tank but refills it from an uncleaned sump gets little benefit.

How we handle apartment buildings

Option 1 — One booking for the building. One owner (or the building's caretaker) books the sump and all rooftop tanks together. With five or more tanks the cleaning subtotal gets the maximum 15% discount, and any transport charge applies only once. Owners split the bill however they agree.

Option 2 — Coordinated individual bookings. If owners prefer to pay separately, each books their own rooftop tank and one owner books the sump, all for the same date. Tell us the other flats' booking IDs and we'll schedule them together.

Either way, the sump is cleaned first and each flat's tank afterwards.

Practical details for apartment buildings

• Terrace access: make sure the terrace door key is available — it's often with the top-floor resident.
• Separate motors: each rooftop tank may have its own pump; we'll need access to each switch.
• Water storage: each flat should store a few buckets of water before the slot.
• Parking: the sump manhole is frequently under the stilt parking; please move cars before we arrive.
